moong dal

On weekends, it would be extremes with us(Roommate and I). We would either be too enthued to make some elaborate meal or we would be too restless to just make whatever happens in a jiffy. In the latter case, we realise it is way past lunch time and wonder what could be prepared in about 30 minutes. First thing that comes to mind is dal. BUt plain dal is boring, ain't it? It might be tangier and tastier with lemon after tadka. So yes it is, moong dal nimbufied(I coined that!).Ginger and coriander are enhance the taste of dal. This is the most basic dal recipe which comes handy anytime.
Serves - 2
Preparation time - 10-12minutes

Salt - 3/4 spoon
Green chillies - 2(chopped)
Ginger - 1 small piece(finely grated)
Mustard seeds - 1/4 spoon
Jeera/cumin - 1/3 tb spoon
Chana dal/Split gram dal - 1/2 spoon
Urad dal/ Bengal gram - 1/3 spoon
Asafoetida/hing - 1 pinch
Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Coriander - 1/2 bunch
Lemon juice - 1 tb spoon(adjust)
Ghee - 1/2 tb spoon
Procedure:
1. Wash the dal and pressure cook it for 2 whistles after adding turmeric powder.(You can cook the dal on stove top till it turns soft). It should have cooked properly and mash it with end of ladle.
2. Heat ghee in a kadai/wok. Add the dals, mustard seeds. Once mustard seeds start to pop, add jeera and curry leaves. After about 30 seconds add hing, green chillies and ginger. Saute them all together.
3. Add the cooked dal to this and add salt according to taste and turn off the flame. After the dal cools for a while, add lemon juice and coriander. Mix and relish with rice and pickle.
